Written after looking over some old pictures from several trips to Amelia Island with some friends. That was a fun and important time in our lives. It seems like 30 years ago and like 3 months. This one will likely find its way onto a The Caution Children (TX) record.
The fourth of July
We drove around
In an old golf cart
Somebody found
We saw the island
Took in the sights
Made love in the sand
In the pale moonlight
Those times passed quickly
Like good ones always do
And though seasons change
I wonder if she knew
Chorus:
The end of summer
Was just around the bend
Now winter’s approaching
And it’s getting cold again
I’m left to walk these beaches
Like some old grey ghost
I’m just a shadow of myself
Since Ameila left the coast
After Labor Day
The crowds are gone
The streets are empty
I’m left alone
On this cold island
Out in the rain
Things look familiar
But they aren’t the same
Bridge:
If I’d been stronger
I’d have asked her to stay
She’d still be with me
Not half a world away
Chorus:
The end of summer
Was just around the bend
Now winter’s approaching
And it’s getting cold again
I’m left to walk these beaches
Like some old grey ghost
I’m just a shadow of myself
Since Ameila left the coast
