Table for One

This restaurant lies at the crossroad
Between her heart and mine
I took her here the night we met
And the day she said goodbye

We sat at the very same table
Every time we came here
Safe in the wood and dark colors
Steal a kiss or hide a tear

Chorus:
I still eat here, don’t ask me why
Because I’m not really sure
Maybe it’s because I’m hungry
For the memory de jour
The maitre d’ feels sorry for me
Because eating alone is no fun
These days I sit at a different table
I sit at a table for one

Sometimes I bring a newspaper
I sit here and pretend to read
So all of the happy people
Won’t feel quite so sorry for me

Bridge:
I wonder where she likes to eat these days
I wonder if the service is as good
Does she sit brightly beside the window
Or melt into the dark colors and wood

Chorus:
I still eat here, don’t ask me why
Because I’m not really sure
Maybe it’s because I’m hungry
For the memory de jour
The maitre d’ feels sorry for me
Because eating alone is no fun
These days I sit at a different table
I sit at a table for one
